Horizons at SCH Academy
about horizons
Horizons at SCH offers a high-quality, hands-on learning experience outside of the traditional school year to support academic achievement and healthy youth development. Now in its fifth year, the program serves over 75 rising first, second, third, fourth, and fifth-grade students. Horizons students experience a full day of learning opportunities, including literacy, math, STEM, and enrichment activities such as field trips, hiking, and instructional swimming. Students also receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks at no cost.
The Henry H. Houston Elementary School, Emlen Elementary, and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy established a partnership in the summer of 2021 to bring a branch of the nationally recognized Horizons program to the SCH campus.
Established in 1964, Horizons is a national network of 60+ tuition-free summer programs that deliver high-quality academic and enrichment support for students from under-resourced communities. Students begin Horizons the summer after Kindergarten and return each summer through 8th Grade.
Horizons Giving Day | May 14, 2025
Mark your calendars! Horizons Giving Day 2025 is on May 14—and your support will make all the difference. This summer, we’re thrilled to welcome 75 students from Henry Houston, Emlen Elementary, and other area schools to SCH’s campus for six weeks of joyful, hands-on learning. Your gift helps provide tuition-free academic and enrichment programming that reverses learning loss and opens doors to opportunity. Together, we can create a summer full of growth, discovery, and lasting impact.
