Challenge Course
Donated by the Class of 2007, the Challenge Course features low- and high-rope options that develop leadership, decision making, problem solving, and team work. The course may only be used under the direction of SCH personnel. For inquiries, please contact: Nick Smith (nsmith@sch.org) for more information.

After Care & Enrichment
SCH offers an extended-day program for all Lower School students through the After Care & Enrichment Center (ACE). The director is located on the first floor of the McCausland Lower School.

Mccausland lower School & Commons
Perched along the Wissahickon, our Lower School is where students Pre-K to grade 4 learn and grow in a single-sex academic environment. The building also houses Doran Hall, named in honor of the Doran family, and is home base for Summerside Camps and After Care and Enrichment (ACE).
Upper School in the Wissahickon inn
The Wissahickon Inn is home to the Exchange (main lobby), Upper School, and Head of School, as well as the College Counseling, Admissions, and Development offices, The Alumni Relations and Communications Departments are also located in the Inn. Built by Henry Houston in 1884 as a grand resort on the highest point of land overlooking the Wissahickon Valley, the Inn had 250 rooms and was popular for summer guests who wanted to escape the heat of Philadelphia. In 1898, Chestnut Hill Academy moved into the Inn during the school year, and the hotel operated during the summer months. Two years later, the hotel ceased its operations and the school took over the facilities year round.
Thornley Middle School
The entrance to the Thornley Middle School was redesigned in 2019 when the McCausland Lower School and Commons was under construction. The Middle School is a hive of activity, single-sex in grade 5 to 8, and is home to SCH signature programs: the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the recording studio and new media lab, and our Middle School auditorium. It's also home to the campus School Store and our common meeting space, The Boat Room.
Center for entrepreneurial leadership
Home to one of SCH's signature programs, the Sands Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) space is in the heart of the Middle School building and encompasses a design/fabrication studio, an audio recording studio, classrooms, work spaces, and a green screen room.
Amphitheater
On the edge of the Wissahickon, and just steps outside the Lower School cafeteria, the amphitheater is enjoyed as an outdoor classroom and performance space. The rocks used to form the seating and steps were found right in our backyard when the McCausland Lower School and Commons was being excavated!
