ABOUT THE TEAM
In 2024, legendary head coach Paul Hines retired and passed the baton to Salvatore Scarafone after 40 years of leadership, success, and service at SCH.
Coach Sal is a running sports athlete, USATF Level 2 and Cross Country certified, Pepperdine Executive MBA graduate, with almost a decade of track and cross-country coaching experience in the CYO, USATF, AAU, Inter-Ac, and PAISAA leagues. His club team won multiple indoor track championships and, over the years, he has coached 20 All-American athletes.
Working together with his new head coach, Athletic Director Dave Wilson assembled an all-star roster of assistant coaches and trainers:
James Vallery: Coached at Cheyney University for 5 years and joined SCH in 2016. Coach Val is our sprinters' coach for both Upper School track & field programs (Indoor & Outdoor).
Christy Tinneny: Coached in the CYO league for 8 years. She is an assistant coach for both Upper School track & field programs (indoor & outdoor). Coach Christy is currently working with our sprinters.
Polly Kimberly: For the past 5 years, Coach Polly has been an assistant coach for the SCH boys Upper School cross country team. She is USATF Cross Country certified and works with our distance athletes.
Davido Dupree: Coach Davido has been coaching hurdlers for over 6 years. He currently works with his club team, PIAA HS team, middle school SCH, and Upper School SCH athletes.
Aaron Sistrunk: Has over 20 years of experience as a strength, conditioning, and fitness coach. In addition to managing our team’s customized weight room workouts, Coach Aaron is our throws coach.
All of our athletes have access to a brand-new, state-of-the-art weight room and athletic trainers who are at the top of their profession.
For most of our athletes, the outdoor track season is a continuation of the indoor track season. Distance runners build a base throughout the cross-country and indoor track seasons. In the spring, they focus on increasing their speed to run their best time at the championship meet. Sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and throwers fine-tune their skills in the spring to achieve their goals by mid-May.
In April, our team participates in several meets, including the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania’s iconic Franklin Field. The Inter-Ac Track Championship and PAISAA Championship meets are in May, and nationals are traditionally held in June.
SCH has a rich history of graduating track & field student athletes who have competed for colleges such as the University of Arkansas, the University of Tennessee, Penn State University, Johns Hopkins University, Emory University, and Columbia University.
