ABOUT THE TEAM
The boys’ track team has earned the respect of state track coaches over the last several decades with many individual and team accomplishments. The team has won three league championships in recent years, achieved a second and third place finish at the State Indoor Championships, and competed at the national level.
For most members of the track team, the outdoor season is a continuation of the indoor season. Distance runners have built a base throughout the cross country and indoor track seasons. In the spring, they focus on increasing their speed to enable them to run their best by the championships. Sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and throwers will fine-tune their skills in the spring to achieve their goals by mid-May. Hard work and warm weather are the ingredients that enhance performances. During April, the team participates in dual meets as well as relay invitationals. The Inter-Ac Track Championship is in mid-May and the New Balance Outdoor Nationals are in June.
The team has qualified members in the 110 high hurdles, 400 hurdles, 400 meters, one mile, two mile, 5000 meters, shot put, high jump, long jump, triple jump, the 4x100 relay, the 4x200 relay, and the distance medley relay. Five have earned All-American honors.
