In Upper School, students may select from a wide variety of theatre electives. Theatre Production is a performance-based class where Upper School students gain a practical theatre education while collaborating as part of a production team in the creation of live performances. Electives include acting, advanced acting, technical design (stage crew), directing, and playwriting. In Musical Theatre, students prepare and perform scenes and songs from a variety of musicals, from the classics to the latest pop sensation. This elective also includes a field trip to see a current musical.
Players, the Upper School extracurricular theater troupe, offers an extended and intensive theatrical experience. Players stages two productions each year (one musical and one drama) and provides students with opportunities for further growth in acting technique, technical design and construction, theatrical research, and leadership. Players is also an active participant in the Greater Philadelphia Cappies, part of the international Critics and Awards Cappies Program for high school theater, where students have an opportunity to review other student productions and be recognized for their own work.
