developing students’ performance experience
The Lower School for Boys music program incorporates elements of music theory, history, choral singing, and playing with both pitched and unpitched instruments. Classroom experiences span a diversity of activities including singing, composition, playing instruments, and movement to give students a varied and active approach to music learning. Safe, positive risk taking is also fostered as we seek to develop students’ independent musicianship and performance experience. Students are exposed to the latest digital music technologies in their general music classes where they use iPads to compose and explore new platforms for musical learning. A popular part of the Lower School for Boys experience is the Second and Third Grade Chorus, a non-audition ensemble that introduces students to large-group choral singing and the opportunity to perform publicly twice a year, the first in a formal choral program and the second in a musical drama.
