Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH) is an independent school offering a rigorous college preparatory program that goes beyond the expected to deliver an unparalleled academic experience. The school’s unique model is distinguished by single-sex education for the lower grades (Pre-K through 8) followed by a coed upper school. The school is situated on a 62-acre campus in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia and serves over 1,000 students from more than 90 zip codes and internationally, with 33% students of color and 41% of our student body receiving need-based financial aid.
Our program is grounded in project- and passion-based learning, compelling SCH students to build resilience and develop a sense of agency while gaining an intellectual foundation for lifelong learning and growth. We have deliberately designed a model in accordance with much of the current research regarding both single-gender and coed education. This unique structure expresses SCH’s belief in the benefits of single-sex academic instruction in the lower and middle grades and recognizes the value of coeducation in a student’s final preparation for college and beyond.
Students who attend SCH experience a robust, state-of-the-art academic program intently focused on not only preparing them for their future, but providing endless opportunities to explore new passions. The SCH experience is not for everyone, but those who are willing to be challenged, work hard, cultivate an independent mind, and exercise their creativity and curiosity will find the curriculum engaging and rewarding. At the same time, they will discover a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating learning environment led by a dedicated, passionate, and highly educated faculty. At SCH, the community created by students and faculty is authentic and strong. It is a community in which the unique gifts of each student are respected and valued, given just the right combination of challenge and support to ensure that each student thrives.
