At SCh Academy,

Performing Arts are woven into the fabric of each student’s journey—from playful storytelling in the Lower School to advanced courses and productions in the Upper School. The arts empower students to discover their individual and collective voices. Whether on stage, behind the camera, or in the design studio, students collaborate as artists and innovators, gaining confidence through the creative process. With every script, song, and performance, they learn to tell meaningful stories, take creative risks, and connect with their community through the transformative power of expression.

Drama has given me a space to be myself unlike any other in middle school. It is always the highlight of my day."

Educating Through Expression

At SCH, theatre education is more than a curriculum—it’s a vital thread woven through every stage of a student’s journey, beginning in the Lower School. From the earliest grades, students explore storytelling, character, and collaboration—both in the classroom and beyond.

Integrated across Performing Arts, English, and CEL curricula, theatre becomes a natural extension of learning. Students might tackle Shakespeare in English, experiment with audio and video in our New Media program, or practice empathy through role-play. These experiences make the arts dynamic, relevant, and deeply meaningful.

This holistic approach empowers students to find their voices, embrace teamwork, and experience the joy of creative expression. From spontaneous improvisation to polished performances, every rehearsal and every role builds confidence, resilience, and imagination.

Throughout the year, students bring their learning to life in vibrant classrooms and on stage, ensuring every child has the chance to shine. These early opportunities not only spark a lifelong love of the arts, but also nurture the essential skills that shape personal and academic growth. At SCH, every story matters—and every student gets a moment in the spotlight.

The Rec Rendering by WRT

project overview

The SCH Academy’s "Restore The Rec" project is an ambitious initiative aimed at restoring a historic structure, originally built in 1884 as a livery stable, and transforming it into a state-of-the-art, multi-functional performance facility that will serve both the school and the broader community. This project is committed not only to preserving the historical and architectural significance of "The Rec" but also to integrating advanced stormwater management practices that align with the school’s mission of environmental stewardship and sustainability.
