Horizons Giving Day | now through May 18

The Henry H. Houston Elementary School in Mt. Airy and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy established a partnership in the summer of 2021 to bring a branch of the nationally recognized Horizons program to the SCH campus.

This year, we will welcome 15 new Kindergarten students as well as 15 returning 1st grade students to our Horizons at SCH summer 2022 program for a six-week program in July and August where they participated in a variety of educational, enrichment, and recreational activities to help them strengthen their reading and math skills and have fun.

Schools represented included the Henry Houston School, Lingelbach Elementary, Charles W. Henry School, Emlen Elementary, West Oak Lane Charter School, Prince Hall Elementary, Ad Prima Charter School, Wissahickon Charter School, Green Street Friends, and Montessori in the City.

Established in 1964, Horizons is a national network of 60+ tuition-free summer programs that deliver high-quality academic and enrichment support for students from under-resourced communities. Students begin Horizons the summer after Kindergarten and return each summer through 8th Grade.

Program details for horizons programming 2022

• Program is at no cost to families

• Program dates: July 5 - August 12, 2022

• Hours: 8:15 AM - 3:15 PM weekdays

• Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided

• Program includes academic classes, field trips, enrichment activities, and outdoor excursions into the Wissahickon Woods

requirements in order to participate:

• Ability to pick up and drop off at SCH Academy

• No family vacations during the 6-weeks of the program

• Commitment to long-term participation of your child

• Your child has a strong school attendance record and good behavior
