SCH Academy is proud to host the first annual Kids Literacy Fun Fest, an afternoon of family fun to kick off the summer season and Juneteenth weekend, benefitting the Horizons at SCH Academy’s summer academic program and featuring a line up of Philly children’s authors and bookstores cultivated by Auggie Bear Publishing. This community festival will include activities sponsored by local youth organizations with music and dancing with Baby Loves Disco. The Kids Literacy Fun Fest is a fun and educational community event promoting family engagement and connections with local authors to raise awareness about literacy and the Horizons at SCH program in a fun, interactive festival environment.

Event Details: The Kids Literacy Fun Fest will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 12:00-3:00 PM at SCH Academy’s Lower School Commons, located at 8000 Cherokee Street Philadelphia PA 19118. All are invited and admission is free. All proceeds from refreshments sold will go to the Horizons at SCH summer academic program, serving students from under-resourced schools in the local community. About Horizons at SCH

The Henry H. Houston Elementary School in Mt. Airy and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy established a partnership in the summer of 2021 to bring a branch of the nationally recognized Horizons program to the SCH campus.

This year, we will welcome 15 new Kindergarten students as well as 15 returning 1st grade students to our Horizons at SCH summer 2022 program for a six-week program in July and August where they participated in a variety of educational, enrichment, and recreational activities to help them strengthen their reading and math skills and have fun.

Schools represented included the Henry Houston School, Lingelbach Elementary, Charles W. Henry School, Emlen Elementary, West Oak Lane Charter School, Prince Hall Elementary, Ad Prima Charter School, Wissahickon Charter School, Green Street Friends, and Montessori in the City.

Established in 1964, Horizons is a national network of 60+ tuition-free summer programs that deliver high-quality academic and enrichment support for students from under-resourced communities. Students begin Horizons the summer after Kindergarten and return each summer through 8th Grade.
