The SCH cross-country team is a positive, inclusive community of dedicated runners who aspire to reach their individual personal records through team training. We welcome every student-athlete who has the desire to run, regardless of prior experience. SCH’s program recognizes that multifaceted team training is how runners are able to reach their potential. When each runner realizes their optimal ability, we are a successful team.

Workouts consist of hill repeats, timed distance, long slow distance, fartlek (speed play) intervals, and track workouts. We incorporate strength conditioning through weight lifting and yoga, while stretching, striders, and plyometric exercises also play an essential role in our training. Above all, we aim to cultivate a lifelong love of running, fitness, and competition in each of our athletes.

The team competes in the Inter-Ac League and the Independent Schools (PAISAA) State Championship, as well as numerous weekend invitational meets throughout the season. We strive to expose SCH athletes to a wide range of competition and racing experiences, including opportunities to compete on collegiate and championship cross-country courses such as Belmont Plateau and Lehigh University.

Head Coach Corinne Dionne has led SCH Cross Country since 2013. Her coaching philosophy prioritizes the physical and emotional health of the student-athlete while creating an environment where runners are challenged, supported, and encouraged to discover what they are capable of achieving.

A former Division I cross-country athlete, Coach Dionne combines her experience as a competitive runner with science-based approaches including motivational interviewing and positive psychology. The program emphasizes individual growth within a team environment, encouraging athletes to support one another, develop confidence and resilience, embrace healthy competition, and learn habits that extend far beyond the cross-country course.

Ultimately, success at SCH Cross Country is measured by more than a finish time. We strive to develop healthy, confident, resilient runners who understand the value of hard work, teamwork, and supporting one another.
