Artist Statement:

I already knew about Bridget and the notorious ceramics class when entering high school as both my older brothers were very passionate and accomplished in ceramics. I had a lot of trouble Freshman and Sophomore year trying to pull up the walls of my pieces and it wasn’t until this year that I realized why. There was always a type of urgency when I was throwing Freshman and Sophomore year. I had a need to do well and prove that I could do it quickly, so I could make the most pieces. Reluctantly, I had to take Junior year off from ceramics so that I could take an academic elective. Coming back to ceramics this semester, I was shocked at how steady my hands were, how focused I was, and subsequently, how well I brought my walls up. I no longer worried about what everyone else was doing and how I needed to portray myself to them, and I was able to focus solely on my own work. It’s super interesting for me to look at my own progression as a person throughout the years, and how it has translated through my art.
