Several Trophies for SCH Chess Team at States, Five Eligible for Nationals

Trophies and wins were had for all SCH chess team players at the 2025 Pennsylvania State Scholastic Championships on March 29 and 30 in Harrisburg. Five SCHers qualified to advance to the prestigious U.S. Chess SuperNationals VIII in Florida, scheduled for May 8-11: Shervin and Ryan Medizad, Kellen Colby, and Elliot Bergmann, and James Salata.

Team Awards 

  • 1st place (club) in two-day K5 Open - Kellan Colby
  • 2nd place in Saturday K6 U800 - Ryan & Shervin Medizad, Elliot Bergmann, Grayson Wright, Sebastian Sarsoza
  • 4th place in Saturday K6 U600 division - Noah & Nicholas Chapman, Mazzie Notash, James Salata, Isaac Sprague
  • 2nd place in Sunday K9 U1100 - Ryan & Shervin Medizad, Elliot Bergmann, Christian Ryerson
  • 2nd place on Sunday K5 Open - Noah & Nicholas Chapman, Kellan Colby, Grayson Wright, Mazzie Notash, James Salata

Individual Awards

  • 6th place in Saturday K6 U500 - James Salata
  • 8th place in Saturday K6 U800 - Ryan Medizad
  • 8th place in Sunday K6 U1100 - Ryan Medizad
  • 2nd place U700 in K9 U100 - Elliot Bergmann
  • Tie-for-10th place in Saturday K6 U800 - Elliot Bergmann
  • 1st place U400 in two-day K5 Open - James Salata
  • 1st place U600 in two-day K5 Open - Grayson Wright
