Tiara Jenkins '20 Virtually Visits Second Grade Science Class

Last week, our second graders were paid an exciting virtual visit by recent SCH Academy graduate Tiara Jenkins '20—an alumna who has become a role model for many of our Lower School girls.

"We are doing a unit called 'Designing Mixtures,' where the students mix various ingredients thinking about cause and effect. We read a book called Jess Makes Hair Gel, where a boy tests different materials to make a good hair gel," shared Lower School Science Teacher Marianne Maloy.

Remembering Tiara's successes during her Upper School years within the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) program, Marianne reached out to Executive Director of the CEL Ed Glassman to set up a virtual visit.

During the visit, Tiara spoke to the second graders about her CEL-born business called Twisted Spirit—an all-natural, curl-enhancing gel that encourages self-confidence and individuality.

"She told them how she came up with the idea, how she had to test different materials, how she packages and markets the product, and answered lots of other questions from the students," Marianne explained. "It was a fun and inspiring conclusion to our quarantine classes!"

Thanks to Tiara for speaking with our Lower Schoolers about her passion, her inspirations, and the entrepreneurship process—and on her birthday nonetheless!
