Seven Springside Chestnut Hill Academy students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Three SCH students were named National Merit Semifinalists for 2023: Shangchen Cai ’23, Daniel O’Connor ’23, and Qimou Song ’23. The seniors were among the top one-third of about 50,000 high-scorers on qualifying tests (preliminary SATs, PSATs, or NMSQTs) this year.
Once recognized as one of the more than 16,000 Semifinalists, students may submit a scholarship application outlining their skills, accomplishments, activities, and leadership for the chance to be selected as a Finalist. Approximately 95 percent of the Semifinalists become Finalists, some of whom receive one of approximately 7,200 scholarships each spring.
In addition, four SCH Academy students received Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program: Yichen Huang '23, Rohan Shetty '23, Caroline Foley '23, and Nathalie Taylor '23.
The letters recognize these students for their "outstanding academic promise." They are among the top two-thirds of the approximately 50,000 high scorers of the qualifying tests. Commended students are eligible for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Approximately 1.5 million high school students enter the program each year.
Congrats, students! #SCHProud
