Thirty-two SCH Students Receive First Awards at State Science Fair

Thirty-two SCH students received awards at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) state science fair this week. The fair is for Pennsylvania students in grades 7 through 12 and "promotes science, engineering, technology, mathematics, research, public speaking, long-term planning, and perseverance."

Grete Anderson, a 9th grader whose project focused on magnetic fields, earned a perfect score.

"'In order to accomplish this, Grete had to learn about Ampere's Law and the Biot-Savart Law, which are quite advanced," said teacher Christopher Schooley. "She learned a lot about what causes magnetic fields and how they are produced, specifically by electric current in a wire. She made several solenoids out of different materials and observed how the magnetic field changed based on factors like materials, number of coils, and electric current."

Those in 9th grade who received First Awards were: Grete Anderson, Amelia Bachalli, Callan Carr-Lemke, Oliver Eckert, Lana Fourkal, Robert Gauvin, Chloe Kent, Elise Lee, Doris Long, William McMullen, Lylah Morris, Alex Vargas, Ever Weiss and Simone Weiss; 10th graders who received First Awards: Benjamin Barsotti, Gray David, and Anna Gauvin; 11th graders who received First Awards: Ziya De Veaux, Scarlet Rose DiDonato, Emma Hannigan and Richard Li; 9th graders who received Second Awards: Hannah Burke, Wyatt Friedland, Henry Hackford, Milla Janick, Penelope Landis, Anthony Norcini, Tori Owens, Alivia Yeager; 10th grader Adam Lane; 11th grader Clare Murphey; and Jacob Bell, 9th grade, received a Third Award.
