The Campus Lantern, SCH’s revived student newspaper, debuted its first issue last week to much excitement and praise. Contributing writers, who are either newspaper activity members or journalism students, have already penned dozens of articles on everything from the Upper School Shakespeare play to the Philadelphia mayoral race. There are profiles of students and faculty members; arts coverage, book reviews, opinion pieces, comics, a sports section, and news items. There is even a competition to design the new Lantern logo.
Editor-in-Chief Griffy Whitman began to build the newspaper through his Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Capstone course last year and, this academic year, his idea came to fruition. Working closely under the direction of advisor and English teacher Jenny Gellhorn, he led staff in the production of the new Campus Lantern website, which will be updated consistently as content rolls in. Several upcoming issues of the newspaper will also be available in print.
