SCH’s CEL Faculty Member and Recording Engineer Lends Expertise to the Save the Train Coalition

The Save the Train coalition continues to press onward with its efforts to elevate the importance of the Chestnut Hill West line and share its long history with the community. To that end, they have produced a catchy, one-minute song designed to rally attention to the potential loss of the Chestnut Hill West line. Baked into the lyrics of their song are some of the fundamental facts: The line has been operating under various iterations for 140 years; and it is an essential lifeline for people of all ages and backgrounds to get to and from work and school from a very diverse Northwest corner of Philadelphia, including East Falls, Germantown, West Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill.

With SCH located next to Chestnut Hill West’s St. Martin station, one of the organizers reached out in the early days of the coalition’s formation to inquire about the school’s professional recording studio. SCH was happy to partner with the group, and Adam Butz Weidner, a member of the CEL faculty, was instrumental in helping with the recording. As the studio engineer, Butz-Weidner arranges microphones where they sound best and ensures all musical elements sing together nicely in the final mix.

“It was incredibly fun and exciting to share SCH's amazing recording studio with the community. I’m passionate about infusing our school with the spirit of music, and the studio has become a pivotal cornerstone for us doing that,” says Butz Weidner.

The song extends a plea to Pennsylvania leadership to keep the train on track!  The Save the Train song and video can be viewed here
