SCH Head of School Dr. Delvin Dinkins is honored to be named to Mayor-elect Cherelle L. Parker’s transition team. Along with other educational leaders throughout the region, he will serve on the sub-committee for education. The goal of the transition, says Parker, is to provide the policies and personnel needed for city government to achieve her vision for Philadelphia: “to make Philadelphia the safest, cleanest, and greenest city in America with economic opportunity for all.”
“I am proud to play a role in helping to make Philadelphia the greatest version of itself,” Dinkins said. “Education and opportunity had a profound impact on my life, and it is an honor to help Mayor-elect Cherelle Parker with her plans to tackle challenges head-on and leverage Philadelphia's most treasured assets—its people and its institutions.”
Each of the 13 subcommittees will be charged with surfacing key insights, open questions, and ideas/proposals to help solve long-standing challenges and advance the Mayor-elect’s vision. The Parker transition wants to ensure that stakeholders have the opportunity to sit at the table and discuss pressing issues in a productive manner, guided by the Mayor-elect’s vision and priorities. To that end, the role of the subcommittees will be to take up specific questions to help guide the transition process.
As an SCH parent, Parker has volunteered her time and efforts at the school over the years, from visiting with Horizons students this summer to answering questions from a student reporter for The Campus Lantern to giving the keynote speech, “Realizing the Dream,” for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2022.
