The SCH Chess Team brought home a 2nd-place state championship trophy before spring break. SCH, one of 58 schools in the K6 Under 500 division at the 2024 Scholastic State Championship, placed just behind Masterman School.
The team saw impressive performances across the board. Grayson Wright earned a gold medal for excellence as an unrated player, scoring 3.5 out of 5 games. Shervin Medizad also earned a 3.5 and Sebastian Sarsoza was just behind him. Competing in their first State Championship, Mazzie Notash and Nicholas and Noah Chapman each contributed 2 wins to the team's score.
In the K6 Under 800 section, Elliot Bergmann, Ryan Medizad, and Zachary Jones provisionally placed 12th after four rounds. Final standings will be confirmed in the coming days. Brothers Ryan and Shervin also participated in the Sunday U600 section, with Ryan achieving a remarkable 3.5 out of 5 score.
Max Greenbaum represented the school in the 7th-12th grade U1000 section, securing 2 wins out of 5 games.
