SCH Chess Team is Top Ranked

The SCH chess team solidified its position as the top-ranked team in the Philadelphia Area Private Schools Chess League (PAPSCL) with a commanding performance at its home tournament this past weekend.

The team amassed an impressive 35.5 points out of a possible 40, significantly outpacing its competitors. SCH's success was fueled by a strong showing from its players, with a remarkable 10 students earning medals. Kellan Colby (pictured above), Mazzie Notash, and James Salata all captured gold medals, while Elliot Bergmann, Grayson Wright, Hugo Dybas, Isaac Spragan, Dominic Spragan, Maia Toomey, Ryan Medizad, and Shervin Medizad each earned bronze.

The PAPSCL Chess Tournaments are hosted by coach Ross Colby on select Saturdays throughout the academic year. These tournaments provide opportunities for chess players of all skill levels to compete against peers from other local schools. Aspiring chess players still have a chance to participate in the league’s remaining tournaments. Information and registration for the final three tournaments of the academic year, scheduled for February 22, April 12, and May 17, can be found here.
