Presidential Leadership Scholarship for SCH Senior Anne Harrower

Springside Chestnut HIll (SCH) Academy senior Anne Harrower was recently honored at a virtual award ceremony sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS). Anne received the organization's Presidential Leadership Scholarship award in the amount of $1,500. 
 
WTS reviewed all applications submitted and recognized Anne at the ceremony saying, “The competition was intense and you are commended for your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and determination.” Ms. Schieber, SCH Chemistry teacher and Service Council faculty advisor wrote on Anne’s behalf, “I am consistently impressed by the high standard that Anne holds herself to and the challenges that she willingly takes on; she is always ready to try to work her way through a difficult problem. She has an incredible work ethic.”
 
Anne is a member of the WTS’s Philadelphia Chapter Transportation YOU program which introduces girls ages 13-18 to transportation and STEM-related careers. She is in her third year in the program, having joined Transportation YOU in her sophomore year. As a member, she has had an opportunity to tour the Port Authority Transit Corp. (PATYCO) Headquarters and Train Shed, walk and learn about the Schuylkill River Trail and the city’s Indego Bike Share Program, and participate in STEM games led by University of Delaware Engineering Professors, including building paper bridges and flying drones through obstacle courses. 

At school, Anne is best known for her work leading the Service Council which is responsible for community service initiatives both on campus and off. She is also a major contributor to both varsity golf and volleyball teams. As an accomplished harpist, she has played the harp since 6th grade and has been a part of SCH’s Honors Chamber Ensemble, as well as her church’s musical program.
