Philadelphia's 'Most Exciting Cuban Band' Works with SCH Students on Cuban Repertoire for Spring Concerts

During their recent visit to SCH Academy, Jamie Bell '78 Music Fund Artists Conjunto Philadelphia, who call themselves “Philadelphia’s most exciting Cuban band,” performed for and spoke with SCHers in each division as the students completed the final preparations of Cuban repertoire for their respective spring concerts. Established in 2014, The Jamie Bell ’78 Music Fund was inspired by the life and music passions of Jamie Bell ’78, and artists are invited to the school to complement the music curriculum; this year students have been focused on Cuban repertoire.

Conjunto Philadelphia aims to maintain the music's authenticity while performing it in a way that pays homage to Cuba's deep and treasured musical history. The group worked with students on musical genres including son, cha-cha-chá, and bolero.

“This experience directly fostered and impacted student learning in the Upper School Jazz Band and Middle and Lower School Band classes thanks to the Jamie Bell ’78 Music Fund,” says Megan Monaghan, director of the Arts at SCH.
