It’s hard to imagine that we went 2 full years without hosting the annual FIRST Mid-Atlantic (FMA) Robotics Tournament, but this weekend THE ROBOTS WERE BACK! Once again, the Vare Field House was transformed into a full-scale robotics arena, bringing teams from all over the region to compete, dance, engineer, form alliances, and most importantly, bring in-person robotics competition back to SCH for the 2022 FIRST Robotics Rapid React Tournament!
Featured here is a recap of Day 1, reliving the glory of what these events are all about: cheering, spirit, robots, engineering, and fun; photos throughout the weekend from Team 1218’s media cohort; SCH’s Team 1218 in action; Dr. Heather Lubell being honored (Team 1218’s robot is dedicated to her) for keeping us all safe and healthy during the last 2 years of a pandemic; and former Team 1218 captain Dom Regli with her brother, current team captain and SCH senior.
At the end of two days of fierce competition, SCH’s Team 1218 advanced to the finals with the Blue Team Alliance, and is ranked 4th in the FMA (out of 126 teams). They also earned one of the coveted special awards, the Autonomous Award, which “celebrates the team that has demonstrated consistent, reliable, high-performance robot operation during autonomously managed actions. Evaluation is based on the robot’s ability to sense its surroundings, position itself or onboard mechanisms appropriately, and execute tasks," states FIRST. Go Team 1218! We’ll be watching as you compete in the next weeks (gearing up for Lehigh University on April 7).
