Eight Upper School students and one Middle School student were awarded 2023 Scholastic Writing Awards. According to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, "Jurors look for work that is unique and blurs boundaries and that expresses an authentic perspective and stands out from classroom assignments and social media trends."
The awards offer students the opportunity to receive recognition for their work, but, says Upper School English teacher Jennifer Gellhorn, "whether or not students receive an award, the submission process is also meaningful." Students, often with help from a teacher, learn how to polish a piece so that it is ready to be read (and enjoyed!) by a wider audience of professionals. Each of the Upper School pieces recognized by Scholastic will be printed in this year's arts magazine, Pub, which will be available this spring both digitally and in print.
Congratulations to both Upper School and Middle School winners!
