'Nature Vivante' Exhibition Opens at SCH, Blending High Art and Environmental Stewardship

SCH officially opened its exhibition, Nature Vivante, last week, bringing together featured artists, curators, and community members to celebrate an extraordinary collection centered on the natural world.

The exhibition, curated by Heather Gibson Moqtaderi, invites viewers to pause and observe nature's intricate details while raising critical questions about its fragility and humanity's role as environmental stewards.

Megan Monaghan, director of Arts at SCH, sees Nature Vivante as an opportunity to “connect visual art studies with environmental learning and hands-on experiences, inviting our students to move beyond simply observing the natural world to seeing themselves as active participants in its care and future."

Featured artists include:

Phaan Howng, whose overgrown, speculative landscapes in painting and sculpture imagine nature adapting beyond human systems.
Rodell Warner, whose digital works explore the persistence of Caribbean plant life within human-shaped environments.
Heidi Leitzke, whose close observational watercolor and thread studies of organic forms emphasize their quiet structure and detail.
Deirdre Murphy, who reinterprets pressed plants and ink studies as contemporary botanical records rooted in memory and preservation.
Marguerita Hagan, who draws on field and underwater research, magnifying flora from sea to land, micro to macro, and its vulnerability to environmental change with which we are intrinsically linked.

Nature Vivante is currently open to the campus community. Detailed information regarding the featured artists, curator insights, and upcoming gallery connections is available on the school's visual arts page.
