Middle School String Players Fill Halls With Music, Thanks to WIN

Our Middle School string players can now dedicate more time to their instruments, thanks to the launch of our new “What I Need,” or WIN, a flexible block for support, extension, or enrichment.

“Our Middle Schoolers lead wonderfully full and active lives, with each day packed with learning, sports, and family activities,” says strings teacher Annie Givler. “In the past, many students wished they had just a little more time to focus on their music and refine their instrumental skills. Now, thanks to WIN time, that wish has come true!”

This dedicated WIN activity allows string players to sign up for extra practice sessions. They can fully prepare for SCH string ensembles, master pieces for private lessons, and practice for extracurricular groups.

“Our new WIN program is designed to give students meaningful choice and targeted support during the school day,” says Catherine Baney, assistant head of Middle School. “By helping them plan how to use their time, build independence, and connect with peers and teachers in new ways, WIN fosters a stronger sense of belonging. Most importantly, it creates space for students to discover new passions, find more joy in their learning, and feel ownership over their growth.”

Other WIN activities include a walk in the woods, American Sign Language, Greek mythology, typing practice, homework support, and much more.

As for strings? “The results have been inspiring,” says Givler. “Students are making remarkable progress, and beautiful music is already filling the Middle School halls!”
