Middle School Community Collaborates on Keith Haring Mural

Our hometown of Philadelphia has been called the "mural capital of the world." Here at SCH, during mural arts month (October), Middle School students examined some of the city's murals and learned more about the Mural Arts of Philadelphia (MAP) program.

One of the murals highlighted was "We the Youth" by Keith Haring. In 1987, when Keith Haring was living in New York, he and a group of city kids visited the city of Brotherly Love and painted "We the Youth'' with a group from Philadelphia. In 2013, MAP decided to restore this iconic work. Under the direction of art teacher Judy Callas, the Middle School community (students, faculty, and staff) shared in lifting a brush to the wall to paint a figure inspired by artist Keith Haring.
