Jonathan Berkson Sees Stars

Jonathan Berkson learned about the constellations in elementary school and he was starstruck. By middle school, he had his own small telescope and was often setting his alarm for odd hours of the early morning to catch the best conditions for sighting planets and meteor showers. He went on to take Honors Astrophysics here at SCH as a sophomore, which affirmed his desire to pursue a career in the field. This fall, he’ll be an Elon College Fellow at Elon University where he will major in astrophysics. He hopes to go on to do astrophysics research.

Jonathan, who has taken all honors science courses and numerous science electives in addition to AP physics, is a member of the orchestra and has participated in Jazz Band. He is also co-head of the Jewish Cultural Club alongside Emily Eisenman and is active in the Robotics program. He is a robotics media team lead and oversees and produces much of the content on 1218 social media.

Under the supervision of Youngmoo Kim, Ph.D., at the Drexel ExCITe Center, Jonathan is creating a LEGO battlebots curriculum (alongside another SCHer) for a weeklong summer camp for underserved middle schoolers in Philadelphia.
