Upper School journalism students at SCH had the opportunity to learn from the experiences of Zoe Greenberg '09, a features reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer. Her talk earlier this week offered valuable insights into the ethical and practical considerations that shape the work of professional journalists.
Greenberg presented three real-life stories she recently reported, guiding students through the journalistic scenarios she encountered. “Every good story has an ethical or journalistic dilemma,” said Greenberg, noting that there are always competing interests to consider.
Students were encouraged to think about the questions they might have asked in the same situation and how they might have handled each story. Topics of discussion included identifying credible sources, building reader trust, and assessing the potential impact of a story on the lives of those involved.
Prior to joining The Inquirer, Greenberg served as a metro reporter at The Boston Globe and a fact-checker at The New York Times. She also held the position of investigative fellow at Rewire News, a national publication focusing on reproductive health.
