Horizons Scholars on the Court and Course

This summer, Horizons at SCH scholars are getting a valuable opportunity to learn both golf and tennis.

In a new collaboration, Horizons has partnered with First Tee to introduce students to the game of golf and its essential life skills. Every Friday, Horizons scholars participate in sessions designed to instill values like integrity, respect, and perseverance. The program offers benefits beyond campus, as active participants are eligible for scholarships, leadership development experiences, and even free golf at local clubs. This impactful partnership further enriches the Horizons program and opens doors for families to get involved in the community.

The tennis enrichment program, now in its third year, was led by SCH students Cade Stone and Anav Edwards in partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Each of the 78 students from kindergarten through 4th grade had the chance to develop new skills, build confidence, and learn the value of teamwork on the court. Cade Stone and Anav Edwards, who are part of SCH's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) program, are among dozens of SCH student volunteers who dedicate their time to making the Horizons summer program a success.

"It's incredible to see our students not only learning the fundamentals of tennis and golf but also gaining confidence, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment," said Dr. Kenyatta Patterson, the Site Director of Horizons at SCH. "These enrichment activities are vital for helping our scholars grow both on and off the golf course and tennis courts."
