Kenyatta Patterson has been appointed site director for the Horizons at SCH program. Now entering its third year at our school, Horizons at SCH is a high-quality academic enrichment program that supports students experiencing educational inequity in Philadelphia for six weeks during the summer months. The site director will hold primary leadership responsibility for the overall operations of Horizons at SCH and is responsible for overseeing all activities in pursuit of the organization’s mission “to advance educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning."
Patterson joined SCH in the summer of 2021 working as a reading specialist in our Horizons Program. In August of 2021, she started her role as a 4th-grade girls homeroom teacher. Last summer, she also worked as a reading specialist in our Horizons program. During our search for the founding Horizons at SCH site director, it became clear that her contributions to the Horizons program, her record of success both prior to joining SCH and as a full-time member of our Lower School faculty, and her passion for the Horizons mission would be invaluable. The position requires an administrator who implements the program and as the leader who connects all the Horizons at SCH constituencies including SCH departments, the Board, Horizons national and regional leadership, Horizons students and their families, partner schools, teachers, volunteers, founders, and aligned community organizations.
Patterson holds a bachelor’s in education from Temple University where she studied early childhood and elementary education. She also holds a Master of Education from Eastern University where she focused on multicultural education. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education in educational leadership with a certification in supervision and administration. She has over 10 years of experience in education.
Patterson will continue her role as a full-time teacher in SCH’s Lower School in addition to her role as site director.
