Horizons at SCH board member Haneef Hill was recently interviewed on campus by 6 ABC for his role as founder and executive director of Urban Youth Kings and Queens. The nonprofit organization “seeks to educate and empower Philadelphia’s children and adolescents through wellness, sports, and after-school programs to recognize their talents, pursue college, and become leaders in their communities.”

“I really had a passion for giving back to the community. I wanted to create my own opportunity where I could serve youth throughout the city of Philadelphia,” says Hill in the interview with ABC. “I want children to feel empowered through our programs and feel like they have a voice, they have an opportunity, they have a stage to perform and be themselves.”

The program, serving local youth ages 4-16, uses various spaces on SCH’s campus for its athletic practices and league games as well as its summer programs, including basketball, baseball, and softball.

"We have been able to do so much because of SCH's willingness to open its doors for us and the staff being so accommodating to our needs," says Hill.

Heather Murphy, SCH’s director of Auxiliary and Special Programs, works closely with this and other youth organizations that rent space on campus. “SCH is proud to support organizations in the community that share our mission and values, and it’s been awesome to watch Urban Youth Kings and Queens organization grow over the years," she says. "We're glad to be able to partner with organizations like Haneef's."
