Middle School Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) teacher Julie Knutson has just been named Global Schools “Advocate of the Month.” The Global Schools Program is an initiative led by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. This year, she is the first U.S. educator to receive the honor.
“Julie’s relentless commitment to this program helps to give our students a unique global perspective. Her work is vital to the success of the CEL. We’re so fortunate to have passionate educators like her at SCH Academy,” says CEL Director Ed Glassman.
Knutson, the author of the young adult book Global Citizenship: Engage In the Politics of a Changing World was one of just 300 educators chosen from 80 countries and 3,500 applicants to be a 2023-24 Advocate of the Global Schools Program. She continues to teach the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and recently helped her 6th-grade Social Impact students celebrate Human Rights Day.
"I can't overstate how lucky I am to work at an institution that supports and prioritizes teaching the Global Goals,” says Knutson. “I am so grateful to work with learners who are not only willing— but eager!—to harness their creative energy and critical thinking skills in the interest of the social good.”
