Five Middle School students recently distinguished themselves among 890 participants from 48 area schools at this year's World Affairs Council Junior Model UN program. SCH's delegation had the honor of representing Costa Rica, engaging in spirited debates and presenting resolutions on critical global issues, including gender equality and building peaceful societies.
A standout moment for SCH came with the recognition of Ever and Simone Weiss, who received an "Honorable Mention" as an outstanding student delegation. The duo impressed judges at the program's summative conference, held at Temple University on May 12, 2025, with their insightful strategies for strengthening democratic institutions.
The students' journey to the Model UN conference began as a winter elective at SCH. They attended a preparatory conference at Temple in March and benefited from a special presentation on cultural diplomacy by Kate Whitman Kamara from the World Affairs Council. In the weeks leading up to the main conference, the team diligently researched Costa Rica's stance on various issues and meticulously crafted resolutions reflecting those viewpoints. SCH Upper School students Ariya Goswami and Roman McNichols also shared their high school-level Model UN experiences, providing valuable insights and inspiration.
