At SCH, students who practice art "don't just become technically proficient, they come to view themselves as artists," says Megan Monaghan, our director of Arts whose passion for the creative fuels a vibrant hub in our community.

A casual stroll through our campus reveals a symphony of artistic expression: a string quartet rehearsing, a dramatic performance unfolding, the hum of the potter's wheel, the focused energy of a film crew, and melodic voices in chorus. In our on-campus galleries, too, artistic dialogue thrives among even our youngest learners.

This vibrant artistic spirit extends beyond our walls, inspiring conversations within the wider community. For a window into this world, join us for the "Symbiosis, Visions of Light" public opening reception at the Barbara Crawford Gallery on January 16 at 5 PM.

Thank you to Megan Monaghan for coordinating, teaching, singing, curating, fundraising, and advocating in the name of art. Hear her talk, in her own words, about the Arts at SCH:

On Faculty

Our innovative curricula are brought to life by a team of active teaching artists who inspire students both in and out of the classroom. These educators are also practitioners in their respective fields, working as woodworkers, violinists, architects, graphic designers, and audio engineers to name a few.

On Performing Arts

Our goal is to let all students learn the basics of performance and feel empowered in that spotlight both in their classes as well as in our award-winning theater troupe, Players.

On the Barbara Crawford Gallery

The Barbara Crawford Gallery plays a pivotal role in connecting students to the broader arts community. Through two externally curated exhibitions each year the program inspires and encourages dialogue among our larger community.

On Culture

A hallmark of the arts at SCH is a passion-driven culture that fuels the program. It seeks to give students exposure to a wide variety of tools, methods, media, and mindsets allowing them to build competence in many artistic fields.

This post is part of a series that focuses on what happens #InTheseHalls at SCH Academy, where every corner holds a story of innovation, care, and expertise. The faculty and staff are at the heart of this experience, shaping SCH for generations to come.
