Councilmember Isaiah Thomas Visits Horizons Students at SCH Academy

Philadelphia City Councilmember Isaiah Thomas brought encouragement and energy to the Horizons at SCH’s summer program during a recent visit to the group’s weekly Friday “Harambee," a spirited morning gathering that unites students in song, call-and-response, and celebration.

Thomas told the students and the many teachers and volunteers in attendance, “The favorite part of my job is being able to make a difference for young people like you." Thomas, who chairs City Council’s Education Committee and is a former teacher himself, fielded questions and connected his work at the city level with the students’ lives and learning. 

Horizons at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy is a tuition-free summer academic and enrichment program designed to prevent summer learning loss and close opportunity gaps for Philadelphia public school students.
