Choir Forward Virtually Performs "The Storm is Passing Over"

As we prepare to turn the calendar on 2020, the Arts & New Media Department has prepared a special treat for our community from the Upper School choruses at SCH and Northeast High School as part of a project called Choir Forward.

Choir Forward is the creation of a unique partnership between the two schools and the Grammy-Award-winning Philadelphia chamber choir The Crossing. For this partnership, Master Choral Director Donald Nally and Assistant Conductor Kevin Vondrak directed The Crossing in a recording that was used to guide the high school students as they created their individual parts, recording themselves at home. The students used Virtual Chorister, an app developed by Dr. Youngmoo Kim, an SCH parent and director of the Expressive and Creative Interactive Technologies (ExCITe) Center at Drexel University, to record their parts. The finished choral piece, The Storm is Passing Over, was written by the notable American Methodist minister, composer, and Philadelphian, Charles Albert Tindley, an early pioneer in Gospel music.
