As the academic year draws to a close, we prepare to bid a heartfelt farewell to eight members of the school community whose collective service spans more than 250 years: Scott Stein (42 years), Pete Capano (40 years), Roland Woehr (40 years), Charlie Grogan (35 years), Anne Stout (29 years), Peggy Grady (31 years), Karen Scullion (21 years), and Sharon Herzog (20 Years). Their unwavering commitment, passion, and dedication have profoundly shaped our school community.
SCH honors its long-serving faculty and staff through several traditions. Retirees are celebrated at the annual Alumni Association meeting during Alumni Weekend in May, and in June by a festive post-graduation gathering for colleagues, friends, and family to offer thanks. Additionally, a colleague shares a personalized tribute at the All-Employee Closing Meeting. As one token of our appreciation, each retiree also receives a specially chosen book reflecting their interests, with a commemorative copy placed in the school library. Our longest-serving retiree then offers "The Last Word" to conclude the meeting.
During Teacher Appreciation Week, Head of School Delvin Dinkins captured the essence of our educators' influence: “I am reminded of the profound impact each of you has on our community. Our mission demands a commitment to inspire unbounded curiosity and independent thought in every student. I see this day in and day out in the passion and expertise you bring to guiding students, nurturing their knowledge of themselves and the world, and empowering them to reach their full academic and personal potential. I see your unswerving dedication to instilling in our students the values of thoughtfulness, integrity, courage, and resilience when I walk the halls, step into classrooms, eat in the cafeteria, attend a concert, cheer from the sidelines, etc. As we engage in the heart-work of shaping future leaders who will make a difference in our world, please know that your efforts to elevate humanity and touch lives in profound ways are seen, understood, and deeply appreciated.”
We extend our deepest gratitude and best wishes as our colleagues embark on their next chapters.
