CEL Showcase Winners Announced

Earlier this week, SCH announced the winners of the Stacy Perper Methvin ’75 Annual CEL Showcase, celebrating over 60 innovative student projects.

The highly anticipated People's Choice Award went to WeBloom, an activism app by Harmoneé Summers. Her venture empowers young people to learn, connect, and take real action on global issues—guided by a customizable mascot named Sprout. “What made her project special,” said CEL App Studio instructor Scott Kirker, “was her ability to bring this vision to life through thoughtful design, a coded prototype, and compelling pitch.”

The Dr. Sands Entrepreneurial Mindset Award was presented to Max Tonkon, Matthew Lee, and Ben Swain for their venture, Hill Entertainment Group, A fair-pay, artist-first music label that “empowers young creators with creative freedom, professional support, and a 50/50 profit split.” CEL teacher Adam Butz-Weidner praised the trio who, he says, “proved that grit, curiosity, and a willingness to iterate can turn raw passion into something the whole community can hear, see, and feel.”

And for the first time, a Kids’ Choice Award was presented based on votes from a special preview event for Middle Schoolers that “celebrates the project that most inspired, impressed, or excited the next generation of innovators.” This award went to Josh Griggs for his video game, Sandstorm Surge.

The showcase honored the legacy of Stacy Perper Methvin ’75, a lifelong mentor and champion of innovation. The event provided a platform for CEL Capstone students to present their apps, nonprofits, and designs, demonstrating sometimes years of effort in transforming big ideas into tangible products and ventures.
