Black History Month Connections

Black History Month Connections

This February, the SCH campus was transformed into a living classroom as we honored Black History Month through powerful storytelling and cross-divisional connections. Together, these experiences created a month defined by joy, deep appreciation, and a commitment to honoring the past while inspiring the future.

Storytelling & Heritage: Director of DEIB Maxime Sinal shared the history of Haitian independence with Pre-K through Freedom Soup. At the same time, the Black Student Union visited the Lower School to read Bedtime Bonnet, reminding students that their hair is "beautiful and bold exactly as it grows."

Living History: Our 4th-grade girls hosted their celebrated Black Wax Museum, stepping into the roles of influential figures to educate the community on the Black voices that have shaped our world.

National Exploration: Dozens of students traveled to Washington, D.C., for a moving visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, gaining a deeper perspective on the legacies that define our country.

Campus Connections: Senior and Lower School buddies teamed up for creative "decorated door" tours, and the community sported BHM basketball shirts organized by Coach and Middle School Dean Julian McFadden.
