Alumnus Draws on CEL Experience for College Project

As a CEL student at SCH, T.J. Spirito ’21 developed a platform to connect local homeowners in need of “around-the-house” labor with local teenagers who were looking for work. Through his courses, he gained, he says, “a passion for community building, creative mindset, and methods/techniques for thinking outside the box.” And he’s taken that mindset to college where he is working on Penn State’s THON, a 46-hour dance marathon that raises money for families affected by pediatric cancer. The dance marathon is the culmination of a yearlong effort by students.

“T.J. has always been determined and driven,” says his former teacher and director of CEL Ed Glassman. “From designing a pool-cleaning robot to launching his chores-on-demand company, it was a pleasure to watch him build his entrepreneurial mindset here at SCH Academy. I’m thrilled to see him apply those skills toward such an important cause.”

Spirito attributes his passion for community building to his years at SCH and is now using those skills to effect positive change in the world. #SCHproud
