After a two-year run that includes providing real-time sports coverage for 148 SCH athletic competitions, Brendan Flatow ’25 will be handing off his GameTime Sports empire as he steps onto the baseball diamond for his final season.
What started as an idea for his sophomore CEL Capstone project, the GameTime “empire” now includes a team of 50 students, two complete broadcasting setups (computer, mics, audio and video transmitters, multiple cameras, and instant replay systems), a reporting booth and banner, an Instagram account with 700 followers, YouTube videos, local business advertisers, Game Day graphics, and coverage of every sport every season as well as pre-game, halftime, post-game shows with player interviews, hype videos, highlight reels, and mic’d up videos.
Career highlights for Flatow include capturing classmate Keni Williams’ half-court buzzer-beater winner which has garnered 30.7K views on Instagram and YouTube, and his play-by-play coverage of this year's "silent night" game. In addition, Flatow proudly reports over three-quarters of a million total views on content posted on all GameTime Sports accounts.
“My experience with GameTime Sports taught me a lot,” says Flatow. “Not only did I learn a lot more about broadcasting but I learned a lot about how to run a business, how to lead a team, and how to work certain advanced technology. Through this process, I have also met a lot of great people.”
In an article published last year, CEL director Ed Glassman shared, "Over the past decade, our CEL program has guided many students in projects related to sports broadcasting and journalism. They often face challenges, from technology to scheduling and staffing. Brendan met these challenges head-on. His passion and focus led him to overcome them. His achievements are impressive. Under Brendan's leadership, we're on track to have one of the region's top high school sports broadcasting programs."
With tremendous appreciation and respect for elevating all SCH sports, Aimee Keough, Associate Athletic Director, has nominated GameTime Sports and Brendan in four categories for the National High School Broadcast Awards hosted by Mascot Media, including Broadcast Production MVP, Best School-run Broadcast Team, Event of the Year, and Play/Call of the Year. (Awards will be announced April 11.) Be sure to send GameTime some SCH love when the public voting begins. Go to @gametime.sports on Instagram and YouTube to enjoy coverage of all the spring sports. Tune into the broadcasts live on Hudl.TV.
Flatow plans to pursue sports broadcasting and journalism in college (destination undecided) and is in the process of documenting a detailed playbook for the succession team of Roman Bostick ’26, Sam Bevan ’27, Quin Dion ’26, Oliver Yespy ’26, and Jadon Hall ’28.
“I hope GameTime Sports continues to be a way for athletes to showcase their skills to a broader audience, for fans to watch games remotely, and for broadcasters to pursue their passions just like I did,” says Flatow.
SCH thanks Brendan, and the all-star GameTime Sports team for everything they have done to make SCH sports accessible!
