Norma Wingate Honored with Statewide Outstanding Preceptor Award

The Pennsylvania Athletic Training Society (PATS) has announced its 2026 award recipients, and a familiar face is among the top honorees. Norma J. Wingate, SCH’s head athletic trainer, has been named the Outstanding Preceptor of the Year.

“As a preceptor, she is unmatched. Her approach is simple: ‘If I’m doing something, you’re doing it.’ She challenges students directly, pushes them to think critically, and places them in situations that foster real growth—but she never lets them fail without support,” said Dr. Ricker Adkins, assistant professor in the Department of Athletic Training at Thomas Jefferson University.

This prestigious award is uniquely significant because it is determined by peers within the profession. It recognizes athletic trainers who go above and beyond their clinical duties to demonstrate excellence in mentoring and educating the next generation of sports medicine professionals.

“It is a privilege to work with and guide future athletic trainers as they develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to care for student-athletes,” she said. “ I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their professional growth while continuing to support the health and safety of our athletes each day.”

Wingate will be formally recognized alongside other industry leaders, including Hall of Fame inductees and distinguished merit winners, at the 2026 PATS Symposium Awards Banquet, held from June 4–6.
