Honoring Coach John McArdle '73

In memory of our friend, coach, teacher, colleague, and mentor John McArdle '73,  we are raising funds to refinish the basketball court in The Kinglsey Gymnasium. SCH will name the basketball court in his memory. We hope you will open your heart and join us in this tribute. Our goal is to raise $75,000 for the John McArdle '73 Basketball Court.

When the Chestnut Hill Academy Alumni Association awarded The Francis P. Steel Jr. '77 Award to John, committee member Bradley K. Moss '76 shared the following:

"Over the course of many years, John has made unique contributions and shown an outstanding and extraordinary devotion to the school. John’s meaningful influence on the school, on thousands of students, and on his fellow faculty members spanned more than fifty years.

In addition to being a talented four-sport athlete during his playing days, John was a great basketball, football, and baseball coach; teacher; class adviser; and assistant athletic director. He won Inter-Ac championships, was inducted into the inaugural class of CHA’s Athletic Hall of Fame, was a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and was honored as Basketball Coach of the Year three times by the City Sportswriters.

John’s most significant athletic impact, however, is not the championships that he and his teams won. Rather, it is the lasting life lessons of loyalty, compassion, teamwork, preparation, toughness in the face of adversity, and resilience that he imparted on those whom he coached."

We look forward to sitting courtside with you at the first Inter-Ac game this season as we dedicate the court to John.  Go Blue!

Best,
