Athletes of the Week Ending September 19

Kelsey Thomas '29 - Field Hockey - Kelsey has had a fantastic start to the season, highlighted by her selection to the U16 Junior National Team Camp last week! A standout midfielder for the Devils, she has scored in every game so far this season while consistently demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and leading by example on and off the field. Kelsey was also named as a Max Invitational Top Performer alongside teammate Molly McGinn '27 for their outstanding play in last weekend's tournament. We can’t wait to see what’s next for her!

Colin McFadden '27 - Football - Colin has been the heart and soul of our defense and team all season. The returning First Team All-Inter-Ac linebacker has been phenomenal on the field, but his leadership has been even more impressive. His 10 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, helped keep the Devils within striking distance of Roman Catholic, arguably one of the top teams in the state. We look forward to seeing Colin continue to lead the way and make an impact as the season progresses.

Maryn Delp '29 & Quinn Clotman '27 - Tennis - Playing as a doubles team, Maryn and team co-captain Quinn won both of their matches last week, defeating Germantown Academy and The Hill School in highly contested straight sets. Both players bring energy, enthusiasm, and an incredibly positive attitude to the court and the team. Their strong chemistry and ability to compete together have made them a formidable pairing. Keep up the great work, Quinn and Maryn!

Simi Mabogunje '28 - Volleyball - Simi, a junior right-side hitter, was instrumental in helping the Devils to a 3-0 start with three outstanding performances last week. She is a force to be reckoned with at the net, recording key blocks and kills throughout every set. When she attacks, opponents scramble to find ways to stop her, and when she’s defending the net, they do their best to avoid her. When she moves to the back row, Simi continues to make an impact with accurate, powerful serves that help maintain the team’s leads. Last week, she led the team in blocks and currently boasts a .350 hitting percentage. Simi is truly a force on the court!

Mike Iacovelli '27 - Soccer - Mike had a superb week for the Hillers, as he tallied three goals against Lawrenceville and The Hun School. Two of the goals were free kicks expertly dispatched from about 25 yards out from goal. Mike has been the dynamic, leading force of our attack this season, and he leads all scorers on the team with 4 goals and 2 assists. We're looking for even more from him as we prepare for Inter-Ac play starting soon. Climb on, Mike!

Emily Shapiro '29 & Avery Burns '29 - Tennis - Playing as doubles partners against GA, Emily and Avery earned an exciting win, taking the first set in a tiebreaker before closing out the second, 6-2. It was SCH’s first team win of the season, and both players followed it up with individual victories against The Hill School on Saturday, each winning a high-pressure tiebreaker with different partners. Emily and Avery bring strong skills, a great work ethic, and a willingness to learn and improve every day. Congratulations to Emily and Avery on an outstanding week of tennis!

Laurel Astheimer '32 - Soccer - Laurel has stepped into an important swing role for the MSG girls’ soccer program this season. She has become a starting center back for the varsity squad, working seamlessly with her teammates to control the backline, block shots, and keep the pace high. On JV, Laurel takes on a more offensive role at striker, where she has scored two goals in two games. No matter where she plays, Laurel brings tremendous energy and never seems to slow down! Keep up the good work, Laurel!
