Athletes of the Week Ending September 12

Will Howard '28 - Football - Will scored the team’s first and last touchdowns against Bonner, ranked No. 8 in the state at the time, helping to seal a huge 24-7 victory for the Blue Devils. The game-clinching score was an incredible 87-yard burst, aided by some excellent blocking. Will shot through the line, ran through a tackle, and then out-legged the entire defense to the end zone for the score! For the game, Will finished with 13 carries for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns. Way to go, Will!

Anna Qawasmy '27 - Soccer - Senior goalkeeper Anna has been outstanding in goal so far this season. Through four starts and 280 minutes of action, Anna has yet to allow a goal, recording 12 saves along the way. Beyond the numbers, Anna’s poise, composure, and steady demeanor under pressure have been incredibly impressive. She has consistently provided confidence and leadership from the back, helping keep the team organized and focused throughout each match. Keep up the great work, Anna!

Warren Miller '27 - Soccer - Warren, a senior captain, has stepped up big during our early season games, especially in some difficult moments in difficult games. He's been a strong presence in our central midfield, helping shepherd younger players around him, and he's also stepped up to take high-pressure penalty kicks in games against GFS and Perkiomen. He's currently our leading goal scorer (3 goals in 5 games), and we look forward to his continued contributions through his last fall with the Hillers.

Melia Echewa '28 - Cross Country - Melia has opened her season with tremendous strength, determination, and consistency. At the Silver Lake Invitational, she powered her way to a career PR of 22:15! Just days later at the challenging Belmont Plateau, Melia showed another side of what makes her such a strong competitor, working beautifully with her teammate through the legendary Parachute Hill and the final mile. Melia is racing with confidence, grit, and an incredible willingness to push herself and her teammates. Her hard work in practice is showing up when it matters, and we cannot wait to see what she accomplishes next!

José Martinez Toledo '28 - Cross Country - José’s hard work is paying off in a BIG way! He opened his season at Silver Lake with a tremendous 46-second career PR, running 19:02 and earning a top-20 medal. When challenged late in the race, José responded, using his position as motivation, sustaining his pace, and fighting all the way through the finish. He followed that performance with another strong race at Belmont, running 19:59, just 11 seconds shy of his Belmont course PR. José has demonstrated focus, consistency, and a willingness to compete every time he steps on the course. He is knocking on the door of that sub-19:00 breakthrough, and we are so proud of the work he is putting in to get there!
