Gilly Lane '03

Gilly Lane is one of the most decorated athletes ever to wear the blue and blue for Chestnut Hill Academy. Gilly earned 13 varsity letters and was First Team All-Inter-Ac in three different sports. On the varsity baseball team, he was a four-year starter, Second Team All-Inter-Ac as a junior, and captain and First Team All-Inter-Ac as a senior. On the varsity soccer team, he was a member of the Inter-Ac Championship Soccer Teams as a freshman and sophomore. He was selected Second Team All-Inter-Ac as a junior and as a senior he was selected captain of the team, the Horace L. Witman team MVP, First Team All-Inter-Ac, Inter-Ac League MVP, First Team All-Southeastern PA, and still, the holder of the single-season points record with 26 goals and 21 assists. In squash (where he was on the varsity since his 8th-grade year), he was a First Team All-Inter-Ac from his sophomore through his senior season. He was a member of five Inter-Ac and MASA Championship Teams, a member of the 2002 HS National Championship Team, winner of the MASA A Division Individual Title his junior and senior season, and three-time U.S. Squash Junior National Champion. At the University of Pennsylvania, he was Penn’s first Skillman Award Winner (An annual award given by the College Squash Association to a senior men’s squash player who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship during his entire college career), Team captain his junior and senior seasons, 3-time recipient of the Coonley Bowl (given annually to a Penn squash player for leadership and sportsmanship), Academic All-American as a freshman, 4 time MVP, 4 time First Team All-Ivy, and 4 time All-American. As a professional, he was ranked as high as #48 in the World, #2 ranked player in the U.S., and was a member of the 2008 Gold winning men’s team at the Pan American Games.
