Ripping, Roaring, and Flying

Ripping, Roaring, and Flying

Zip and click your boots in. Crunch through the snow to the starting gate. *Beep* Wind whips across your face. Cruise down the slopes and carve your way past rails and flags. You’re ripping and flying!

These are the moments that 7th grader, Warren, lives for. As a Philly kid, his passion for boarding heated up on the city streets, and moved to the frozen slopes at the age of 6. In the three years since he competed in Nationals, Warren brought home the bronze medal during one of his pow-pow trips to Copper Mountain, Colorado. “It was really joyful because I trained so hard for that moment,” he reflects. Shredding downhills and flying off jumps is where Warren finds his fire. “It makes me feel completely free and I love to ride in my own way, with my own style.” We can’t wait to see his board blaze when the next snowy season begins on the mountains, slopes, and halfpipes.

Our 2021-22 social media campaign, Fired Up Fridays, pays tribute to the message engraved in the stone mantelpiece above the fireplace in the Henry Library that reads: “Kyndle yr awne ffyre” (Kindle Your Own Fire). Each Friday we will shine a light on members of the school community whose passion runs deep for a particular interest, activity, class, or hobby. #FiredUpFridays posts on Insta and Facebook, so be sure to follow along!
