In Sync for the Sizzle

In Sync for the Sizzle

Blades are sharpened, boots laced, and 16 skaters are ready to hit the ice. They step onto the rink in 16 fluid movements—fast as fire, smooth as ice. After years of dedication, they dance on frozen water with complex precision and the same commitment and passion we’ve seen on our screens during the Winter Olympics. This #FiredUpFriday, we celebrate our own synchronized skating superstar SCH senior Alisa who recently returned from Austria’s Mozart Cup competition in Salzburg with some hot hardware: a GOLD medal! Alisa’s synchro posse, “Skyliners junior,” skated with fiery fury and finished in first place after their short and long programs. Training Tuesday through Sunday every week—at rinks in NYC, Stamford, and locally!—Alisa (along with her parents) has logged mega miles on the road as well as untold hours practicing with her team and coaches. But, wait…there’s more! She won’t be hanging up her skates for the season just yet. In March, the Skyliners will head to the junior synchronized skating Nationals in Colorado and then back to Innsbruck, Austria for the prestigious junior world championships. In the spirit of Olympic pride, your school is cheering for you and your team, Alisa!

Get a taste here: see the Skyliners in action.

Our 2021-22 social media campaign, Fired Up Fridays, pays tribute to the message engraved in the stone mantelpiece above the fireplace in the Henry Library that reads: “Kyndle yr awne ffyre” (Kindle Your Own Fire). Each Friday we will shine a light on members of the school community whose passion runs deep for a particular interest, activity, class, or hobby. #FiredUpFridays posts on Insta and Facebook, so be sure to follow along!
